The ISS (International Space Station) is an orbiting laboratory and construction site that was assembled in low Earth orbit from a mutlinational consortium that was largely led by the United States and Russia. The ISS is host to many scientific experiments in microgravity and the space environment. The ISS also serves as an observatory and low orbit staging base for future missions to the Moon and Mars.
